crowns
Crowns are used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth. They serve to replace missing, misshapen or broken teeth, or when a large cavity threatens the health of a tooth. Crowns have the added benefit of completing a smile, and of restoring a functional bite and chewing capabilities.
Crowns are made of gold and high-grade porcelain, and are made to completely encircle the tooth or dental implant. A minimum of two visits are required to fit and place a crown. In the first visit, decay is removed, the tooth is shaped, a mold of the tooth is made, and a temporary crown of metal or plastic is installed. In subsequent visits, the permanent crown is fitted and, finally, bonded to the tooth using dental cement. When properly fitted, a crown will look completely natural, indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
