preventative dentistry

Preventative dentistry is some of the most important work we do. With regular checkups every six months, we can detect and address any issues with your teeth and gums before they have the chance to develop into major problems. Proper home care is also essential—we’re here to show you precisely how to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

The source of many dental problems is the accumulation of plaque, the sticky film of bacteria and other microorganisms that naturally begins to form immediately after a tooth is cleaned. If plaque is allowed to accumulate, the bacteria produce acids that attack the minerals in the tooth surface—leading to cavities—and irritate the gums—leading to inflammation, gingivitis, and, in very serious cases, periodontal disease. Accumulated plaque can also harden into tartar, or calculus, which can contribute to conditions such as bad breath and receding gums.
